Knitting naturally

Nothing makes me happier than to see the colours of autumn emerging. It's a season in which I feel as though I belong, like many people I'm sure. I have just returned from a few days spent in the North East where the splendour of Northumberland impressed my Canadian travelling companion as much as it did me. She lives in British Columbia and is therefore no stranger to a grandiose landsape. The greens and copper colours in the undulating terrain framed by the Cheviot hills were just magnificent under a seemingly endless blue sky.

As a result I immediately embarked on a shawl pattern from the new Laine 6 magazine in a gorgeous shade of green Cumbria yarn from The Fibre Company. I was also delighted on my return to the woolface to see that a delivery of yarn has arrived from Hedgeknits. Here is Rita who visited the shop a few weeks ago wearing this wonderful cowl knitted in yarn that she hand dyes using plants and materials that she forages! I took little persuading to stock some of her fabulous yarns - illustrated below.

Take your inspiration from the seasons and from those who strive, as we do, to connect through their craft with the natural world.

Happy Knitting and Crochet

Here is Beverley sporting a delightful sweater knitted in Rowan's Summerlite DK. It suits her a treat!

Jo has knitted this gorgeous shawl using 2 skeins of Fibre Fox yarn. We only recently started to stock this locally hand-dyed yarn and it is proving a runaway hit. Great as a sock yarn or for projects like this one. Also some sparkly skeins AND some in Christmas colours!

Julia has knitted this lovely sweater from an Isager pattern. It looks so comfy and wearable. Another triumph of Danish design and superb knitting!

Laura has knittd this shawl - pioneered by James - from a Laine 6 magazine pattern and taken up by many. It's a great shape and lovely to knit and to wear.

This is Marion's version of a Rowan shawl that is knittd lengt ways using Kidsilk Haze and a DK yarn. She looks sooo elegant in it!

Annie has knitted another Isager Sky Tree Scarf. We sell kits for this and many other Isager projects, although this colour way was chosen by Annie. What can we say about it? Isager designs are just fab and we love them all!

Hedgeknits yarns are incredibly beautiful and have been created using plant dyes. More about them and patterns for single skein projects next week!
