You can't win 'em all

Who was it who said that you can't please all of the people all of the time? We do try our best but alas, we don't always succeed. Take this week, for instance - a car pulled up outside the shop from which an elderly gentleman emerged, frail but upright. He entered the shop clutching a bag, the contents of which drew an astonished reaction from James who, in all fairness, is not easily fased by the sight of unidentifiable knitted objects. With customary bluntnesss, when asked about repairing the stringy mass, James delivered the swift but harsh verdict that the garment was beyond repair and should be disposed of and replaced. The gentleman gasped and looked wildly around the shop as though seeking evidence to the contrary, or at least the prospect of a more favourable second opinion. Remonstrations ensued but James stuck to his guns until the fruitless exchange was interrupted by the arrival of the plaintiff's son, having parked the car. 'Everything sorted?' he enquired breezily of his father whose defeated air said it all. As he ushered him out of the shop the younger man turned at the door, beamed at James and asked 'Oh - by the way, do you sell parachute cord?'! It's not often that James manages to disappoint two generations of one family so severely.

With Christmas on the horizon it's a busy time for those knitters and crocheters who will experience the joy of giving handmade gifts. As the season gets closer the yarn that knitters choose to use gets thicker - quicker to knit! Never has Rowan's wonderful super chunky Big Wool been more popular and we have just had a new delivery of it. There are also still lovely yarns on sale as we continue our mid-season clearout to make way for new delights after Christmas. There is still time to make quick gifts so do come and see us for ideas - unless it's parachute cord you're after!

Happy knitting

  Customer knits

Here are photos of 2 fab projects from Julia. The first is a beautiful shawl/scarf knitted with a pack of Fino mini-skeins - five lovely shades of wool and silk yarn from Manos del Uruguay. Purrrfect!

Julia's second completed project is this gorgeous cardigan knitted in Adriafil's Sierra Andina - a 4 ply alpaca yarn of which we currently have several shades on sale.

Here is a blanket knitted by Wendy using Rowan's Pure Wool DK. It is knitted in Karen's current favourite slip-stitch - making colourwork the easiest thing ever. It is so simple as you only ever knit one colour per row. Doesn't it look great? A perfect winter project.
