New Year Knitting and Continuing Sale! - Oxford Yarn Store
Ignore The world as you knit and crochet!

We are very pleased to have seen so many of you since Christmas. This could be entirely due to our personal charms, or it might also have something to do with holiday cabin fever, or it could even have something to do with the January sales! Everyone loves a bargain and the craft community needs litle excuse to start stocking up for a new year of creativity and fun. We truly appreciate your support in helping us clear the decks for new stock that will be coming in. And for showing your support for bricks and mortar shops.

You will be pleased therefore to hear that the sale continues

AT LEAST 15% OFF ALL YARN UNTIL SATURDAY 19TH JANUARY!

Our workshops are starting up again tomorrow with Learn to Crochet in the morning and Improvers Crochet in the afternoon. We still have a space available in both sessions. What better way to spend a dreary winter weekend?

We knitters and crocheters may be the only sane people left in the UK by March 29th - but I have made a new year's resolution not to go on about all of that. Last time I referred to the desperate state of the nation (after 3 days' sick leave during which I watched far too much TV news whilst knitting) I had an email from someone who told me in no uncertain terms to stick to the subject of knitting and to stop making 'smart a**e remarks' about extraneous matters. This is not what she expects from a knitting blog, she claimed, and her exasperation hit home. Let us stay focussed on the joy of knitting in 2019 and relish the unity and cameraderie that it brings!

Happy Knitting

Karen

PS.  We found these glasses under the shop counter recently, if anyone has lost a pair like these please get in touch.

  rowan moordale

We are delighted, as a Rowan Flagship Store, to announce the arrival of the brand new Rowan yarn Moordale to Oxford Yarn Store.

Moordale is a premium blend of the finest British wool and British Alpaca. The fine micron wool and the soft to the touch Alpaca give this yarn a robust but tender feel. Available in a pallete of 12 complimentary shades ideal for colourwork, but equally the knitted fabric, using a single shade is special enough to make a favourite piece of knitwear.

Moordale is 70% wool and 30% alpaca and knits to 23 stitches and 30 rows on 4mm needles. A 100 gram hank gives 230 meters.

To accompany Moordale, Rowan have published The Moordale Collection which features 14 designs for men and women by one of Rowan's favourite knitwear designers Martin Storey.

Anna has knitted this jumper from the Rowan pattern book Journeyman, using Rowan Felted Tweed Aran yarn. (It's the same one that Karen knitted for her husband as previously featured.) Anna says:

Here is my husband Gerard in the Curtis jumper I made for him. It wasn't strictly for Christmas but I finished it over the Christmas period. I hugely enjoyed making it and he got lots of compliments at work today in it.

Anna continues:
And also here's a picture of the wonderful basket which he has woven for me, for (some of) my yarn stash.

Jess was busy knitting hats for her family for Christmas. The adults' are in Rowan Cashmere Tweed, the children's in Rowan Big Wool.

Jess also crocheted these chocolate orange covers in Rowan Handknit Cotton.

Sarah has knitted this sweater in Isager Tweed yarn from a pattern by Marianne Isager in the Isager Men's Knits book.

Karen has knitted this beauiful cardigan from a combination of Isager Jensen and Silk Mohair yarns.

Our Karen has knited up this scarf using the luxurious Rowan Sultano Selects yarn in the silver shade, this is a very long scarf and uses three hanks of Sultano, a shorter one could be knitted using two hanks.  Attached are co-ordinating pompoms of which we have many to choose from.

Karen is wearing a sweater knitted for us by Jenny.  The pattern is Blue by Isager and is knitted using Isager Tweed and Silk Mohair yarns.  The pattern is a single pattern and is one of many single Isager patterns that we stock alongside their wonderful books.

Sandra has knitted this pattered yoke cardigan called Marble Hill designed by Jennie Atkinson. It was featured in the November issue of the Knitter magazine.
