Spring Surprise - Oxford Yarn Store
  Spring surprise

For a while this week we were given a taste of brighter days to come as temperatures rose to an unprecedented level for the month of February here in the UK. Although it's hard to set aside concerns raised by this seasonal ambiguity, we were offered a break from the turbulence of the times in which our fortunes are being cast. We needed the respite of an alternative headline.

Here at the wool face life goes on with much to distract us from any concerns about the future of imported supplies et al. The glorious yarns that have arrived from Rowan and from Juniper Moon Farm offer gorgeous palates and textures for Spring and Summer knitting. And never has there been a greater range of mid-season options of yarns and patterns, including some still on sale. Everyone likes a bargain!

It has been a great week for some of our favourite publications. Laine 7 is proving as popular as previous issues of this wonderful knitting pattern collection, giving an insight into Finnish life and knitting culture. (We have a limited number of back issues in stock.) I have begun a sweater from the new Laine magazine in Rowan Moordale and am loving both the yarn and the pattern. There is some steering ahead! The new issue of PomPom magazine was released yesterday and is also wonderfully inspiring. It is a joy for a knitter who was introduced to the craft in the 1960's to share the excitement of contemporary trends and global collaborations that these publications provide. Come and have a browse of these and other new patterns.

Whatever the weather we always aim to provide a warm welcome at OYS. If in doubt -knit. That's our default position. It is the best way of maintaining one's equilibrium as we wait for signs of Spring.

Happy Knitting
