Knit More - Stress Less! - Oxford Yarn Store
  Knit more - stress less!

Knitting is essentially a tranquil activity. Mindful, meditative, all that jazz. I know that I am preaching to the converted. People often share with us interesting studies concluding that those of us who engage with crafts reap health benefits, particularly psychological. So on that score we agree with the academics, which is great since we are overrun with them here in Oxford. Knit and stay calmer, fitter (you eat and drink less when knitting), more productive, creative, sociable and able to find your way out of a mess. Great for parliamentarians you'd think. (Just picture the House of Commons if that idea took off! "Order, ORDER!! - Is any honourable or right honourable member in possession of a spare cable needle?")

This is not to say that the eqilibrium of a knitter is not regularly challenged. One of our Knit Clubbers last week railed against the advice of all of us to unravel a good chunk of a top-down sweater to adjust an uneven shoulder seam. This week she thanked us for this advice (freely given by those who did not have to undo hours of work!), serving as a good example of biting the bullet in order to get something right. Many of the pitfalls of knitting can be avoided by coming to our Professional Finishing techniques workshop led by Avril Best who works for Rowan. She can really set you straight on all of the things that you don't like doing - sewing up etc - by teaching you methods that you may never have known about. See below for info on our upcoming workshop programme.

There are lots of great ideas for Spring projects. Come and have a look. This is one consolation if the dreary weather continues into the Easter holidays in the UK. I am looking forward to starting the wrap inspired by Cyd on her recent visit from Arizona. Here are the 8 shades of Alpaca 2 that I have chosen. The choice was so difficult that in the end I picked the colours of some of my favourite fruit and veg! Here as well is Cyd again in her version of this easy but stunning poject.

Happy Knitting

We have received a number of lovely new sample garments from Rowan and here we are modelling some of them:

First is the Sedge cardigan by Martin Storey knitted in Rowan's new British wool and alpaca blend yarn, Moordale.

Second is the Kirkin wrap by Sasha Kagan knitted in Rowan Summerlite 4-ply and Kidsilk Haze yarns, featured in the new Rowan Spring and Summer 2019 Knitting and Crochet Magazine. Kirkin is beautifully light to wear.

Here is the Dali wrap knitted in Rowan Cotton Cashmere, another wonderful accessory from the new Rowan Spring and Summer 2019 Knitting and Crochet Magazine.

James is wearing Barton a Hooded cardigan knitted in Rowan's new summer yarn, Denim Revive (made from recycled denim), which features in the Ocean Blue pattern collection by Martin Storey for Rowan.
