WORKSHOPS, CLASSES, CLUBS AND EVENTS

Oxford Yarn Store provides a wide range of workshops (listed below) for knitting and crochet with something suitable for all abilities from absolute beginners to those with more experience wanting to try something new.

Please contact us in person at the store or telephone us on 01865 604112 during opening hours.   Payment of the class fee is required at the time of booking.  We operate waiting lists for classes that sell out.

Cancellation Policy

Refunds for cancellations of workshop bookings can only be made if the space is successfully resold. Please check your availability on the date before booking.  Please note that it can be very difficult to resell a space for cancellations made close to the date of the class and very unlikely when cancelled on the day itself.

In the event of cancellation by Oxford Yarn Store a full refund will be made. 

Oxford Yarn Store Customer Knit Clubs:

Bring your knitting or crochet along to one of our Knit Clubs hosted here at Oxford Yarn Store.  This is a fun, social event for customers of the store.

Wednesday mornings (10am to 12 nooon)

Thursday evenings (6pm to 8.30pm) 

Knit Club is a free, untutored social event for customers of the store and is not a class. Please see how to get knitting advice or private lessons below:

Advice:  We are happy to offer general advice on knitting problems.  However this is not possible on Wednesday mornings or Saturday's when we are generally too busy in the shop.  Please also note that detailed advice requiring a lesson is charged at £20.00 per hour.

One to One Private Lessons:  We are happy to offer private knitting* lessons upon request, please contact us for more details.  These are charged at £20.00 per hour per person at a mutually agreed time (generally private lessons can be arranged for between 10am and 5pm Monday to Friday subject to availability of a tutor - please enquire).  * Sadly we cannot offer one to one crochet lessons.

Introduction to Brioche Knitting
Sunday 24th June
10.30am to 4.30pm


Brioche is a beautiful stitch that creates a soft, draping and warm knitted fabric and is therefore currently a popular technique to acquire. In this class we’ll learn the basic principles of working Brioche in one and two colours. Experience needed: basic knit and purl stitches, increasing and decreasing.

Skill Level: This class is suitable for intermediate knitters (you should be comfortable with knit and purl stitche, casting on and off, and basic increases and decrease stitches and be comfortable with reading simple patterns).

Materials: You will need a pair of 4.5mm, 60cm long, circular knitting needles.

Price: £65.00 (includes two 50g balls Rowan DK yarn)

Isager Swatching Day
Sunday 1st July

Join us for a celebration of our gorgeous range of Isager yarns from Denmark.  Oxford Yarn Store offers the widest range of Isager yarns and patterns in the UK and invites you to this ‘taster day’ to try out some of the lovely yarn combinations unique to the designs of Marianne Isager and her daughter Helga. See our website for our range of Isager yarns and patterns – including K (Knit),  The Artisan and ALJ pattern books. (All available via mail order as well as in Store.)

Profesional Finishing Techniques
Saturday 7th July
10.30am to 4.30pm


Rowan tutor Avril Best teaches you how to give your work a professional finish - tension; cast on methods; shaping techniques; button holes and picked-up edges; bands, collars; short-row shaping and three-needle cast-off for shoulder seams; blocking and pressing; putting in sleeves and sewing up using mattress stitch.

Skill Level: This class is suitable for intermediate knitters (you should be comfortable with knit and purl stitche, casting on and off, and basic increases and decrease stitches and be comfortable with reading simple patterns).

Materials:  You will need to bring with you two knitted sample squares (each being 4 x 4 inches and knitted using double knit weight yarn and using stocking stitch).  You will also need a pair of 4mm knitting needles, a tapestry needle and a pair of sharp scissors.

Continental Fair Isle Knitting
Sunday 8th July
10.30am to 4.30pm


Learn how to knit Fair Isle in the round using; circular knitting needles; the magic loop technique; corrugated rib; knitting holding different colour yarns in each hand using English and Continental knitting techniques combined. For intermediate knitters - no previous experience of Fair Isle or circular knitting is required however.

Skill Level: This class is suitable for intermediate knitters (you should be comfortable with knit and purl stitche, casting on and off, and basic increases and decrease stitches and be comfortable with reading simple patterns).

Materials:  You will need a pair of 4mm knitting needles.

Price: £65.00 (includes two 50g balls Rowan DK yarn)

About Booking:

Most classes have a maximum of 6 participants (there can be more on a Sunday).
Classes are confirmed as booked upon receipt of payment only.

Some class fees include the cost of materials and others, where indicated, do not.  When booking we will tell you what you need to bring to the session. You will be offered a 10% discount on all materials and needles purchased in store for your class.
