Steeking

Dive into the world of Fair Isle knitting in the round and the art of steeking, where you'll learn to confidently cut open armholes and V-necks without damaging your work. This technique, trusted and perfected by generations of Shetland Island knitters, won't ruin your knitting. We'll guide you through each step, ensuring a successful and satisfying result.

You Will Need To Bring:
Yarn: 2 contrasting colours of knitting WOOL (preferably untreated, so not Superwash, and not another fibre e.g. cotton, linen, silk, acrylic, bamboo, nor even alpaca or mohair, etc).  Steeking is best and most successfully worked with untreated wool yarn.  25g to 50g or each shade in DK or worsted weight will be plenty for the class.
Needles: you will need 4mm or 4.5mm needles that you prefer to knit small circumferences in the round with, either double pointed needles (DPNs) or a long circular knitting needle to use the magic loop method.
Also:  3mm or 3.5mm crochet hook (to use when we secure our steek) and pair of small sharp scissors.
We will be knitting a small swatch with a steek that we will then secure with crochet before finally cutting open.  This will cover the whole steeking process from start to finish

Skill Level:
You should be comfortable with the following
